Can I put raw honey on my face?

Honey is a popular skin care and beauty product that is found in more and more creams and ointments. Studies show that raw unpasteurized honey is beneficial for skin and health due to its antimicrobial and healing properties. It is also suitable for skin diseases such as acne , psoriasis and eczema .

It can be applied to the face, except for people with pollen allergies.

For cuts and burns

In traditional medicine, people have used honey for 4,000 years to treat burns and skin wounds through topical application. In New Zealand, manuka honey is used on wounds and burns to prevent bacterial infections.

For acne

Honey can be an alternative therapy for acne . Studies have shown that honey provides antimicrobial protection, making it effective in treating skin conditions such as acne. Other studies have shown that manuka honey combined with 10% glycerin is more effective than using antibacterial soap to treat acne. Applying a small amount of honey to the affected areas may help clear up acne.

In eczema

Eczema , or atopic dermatitis, is a condition that causes itchy rashes and reddened skin. It often develops during childhood, but it can also affect adults. According to a 2017 study, manuka honey helps reduce eczema lesions on the skin.

In psoriasis

Psoriasis is an autoimmune disorder that causes overgrowth of skin cells. This can cause itchy patches to form on the skin. Psoriasis can appear anywhere on the body, but one in three people have it on the face. More limited studies have shown that manuka honey helps treat psoriasis.

Face masks with honey

A homemade face mask can only include raw honey, which is applied to wet skin and left on for about 20 minutes before being washed off thoroughly.

Lemon essential oil is a great addition to a honey face mask because of its vitamin C content . Combine 2-3 tablespoons of honey with a drop of lemon essential oil. Leave the mask on for 15-20 minutes, then wash well. In case the skin is injured, lemon can cause burning.

Honey can also be combined with other additional ingredients that are good for the skin, such as essential oils, egg whites, coconut oil, yogurt and avocado.
