What are the health benefits of spirulina?


 

Blue or blue-green algae are derived from the cultivation of different types of algae such as Microcystis aeruginosa, Microcystis wesenbergii, Spirulina maxima, Spirulina platensi Anabaena pp., Lyngbya wollei, Nostoc ellipsosporum and Aphanizomem flos-aquae .

 

These algae are quite common in alkaline waters of tropical or subtropical areas with high salt content.

Blue and blue-green algae  are contraindicated in phenylketonuria.

 

There may also be problems related to pollution of the environment in which they are grown.

 

Elevated levels of mercury, cadmium, divalent ions and bacteria were found in some samples, especially in algae grown in Mexican lakes.

 

What is the recommended daily dose?

The normal dose is usually 3-5 g of blue algae daily taken before meals with fruit juice.
